Before meandering my way to the magic city, I spent nearly 22 years (aka my entire lifespan) in Rochester, NY. I’ve learned that if you tell anyone you’re from New York, they’ll immediately assume you’re referring to the most iconic, vivacious city in the world- not Upstate. Rochester was long overdue for some celebration of it’s own. After all, it’s the birthplace of Susan B. Anthony, Fredrick Douglass, and most importantly, the garbage plate. Hello?! What’s not to love?
I shared my perspective of Rochester with their 24k+ following, and aimed to educate and engage diehard ROC enthusiasts as well as newbies to the area. My contribution of local traditions and nostalgic anecdotes generated over 100 comments and an average of 555 likes.
