Six Hacks for Your Best Skin Ever

Our skin is a reflection of the events in our lives and our inner state of harmony. And as a gentle reminder, our days ahead are unpredictable. It’s impossible to fully prepare for the waxing and waning of our emotions, our unexpected hormonal imbalances, or even that wicked mosquito bite. Fortunately, we can become equipped with the hacks to suppress and subdue these impurities, as quickly as it took for them to suddenly arrive.

A little creativity goes a long way in the world of beauty, as well as understanding the fundamentals of how our skin works. But no need to worry, for any twist and turn your skin is about to take, we’ve got you covered.

Dry and flaky? Nope, not today.    

Fast Hack: Oils and serums. 

When we shop for and buy a “moisturizer”, we expect it to, well, moisturize. We’re sorry to break the news, but many common creams and lotions include mineral oil, which is known to clogs pores, be contaminated with toxins, and provides little to no beneficial nutrients for the skin to absorb. So if you’re troubleshooting your dry, flaky skin with your trusted bottle of Vaseline, it might be time to reconsider.

Bear with us on this analogy, but consider your pores as if they were the size of a penny. Now consider the size of the molecules in many moisturizers to be the size of a nickel, or even a quarter. Rather than penetrating within your pores and hydrating the skin at its core, mineral oils lay comfortably on the surface while suffocating your skin. The moisturizer you’re slathering on likely isn’t finding its way to the layer needed for instant nourishment. Instead, look for products that include peptides, which are small pieces of collagen that reach the dermis, the deeper layer of the skin where the real action happens. Your best bet? Replace that tube of lotion for a serum or essential oil. Both have antioxidants, vitamins, and smaller molecules that never fail to get down, dirty and deliver real results.

Blackheads? Banished!

Fast Hack: Baking soda and OJ.

A dreaded acne symptom, blackheads form from sebum, a substance produced within the pores to ensure your skin stays as hydrated as possible. But sometimes this plan goes awry. When sebum is overproduced, the pores become blocked and the sebum becomes oxidized, which in turn causes the “blackness” to the not-so-beloved blackhead.

For all the struggling beauties out there, we have the recipe for you. Mix together one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of fresh orange juice. That’s it! Dab the simple concoction on your nose or wherever else the blackheads are poking through, and let it soak in for 20 minutes. Use a damp wash cloth to remove, and voila! They’ll be disappearing in no time.

All Other Blemishes? Buh-Bye.

Fast Hack: Aspirin and Honey

Suffering from an onslaught of acne? You didn’t ask for it, you don’t deserve it, but now you’re left with only two options- sit back and wait or attack. Like your mother always advised, kill them with kindness (AKA don’t compulsively pop your pimples in a fit of rage with dirty fingers). Rather, dip into your medicine cabinet for that bottle of Aspirin, and combine with honey to see nearly immediate results. Simply crush up a single Aspirin into a bowl and mix it with a drop or two of toner to develop a paste. Apply the formula directly to your problem area and wait for five minutes, allowing it to stop the swelling and red inflammation. Afterward, add some honey to your wounds to clean and purify your pores. Wash your face ten minutes later, and you’ll be looking clearer before you know it.

Fast Hack: Egg Whites

Before you make that omelet, save an egg or two and lift up your face instead. Egg whites contain hydro lipids and act as a natural astringent, shrinking the sizes of your pores and tightening any loose skin. Whisk together a couple egg whites until you see a foamy consistency, and apply a thin layer on your face, neck and around the eyes (or anywhere else that needs it).

Resembling a raccoon this morning? Fret not.

Fast Hack: Coffee Grounds

Maybe you neglected your beauty sleep in favor of a Netflix binge. We’ve all been there. Regardless; dark, baggy under-eye circles are never what we like to see in the mirror on Monday morning. After making your pick-me-up pot of coffee, set the coffee grounds aside to cool. Scoop some up and massage in a circular motion under your eyes, letting the grinds sit for 20 minutes until rinsing them off with cool water. You’ll notice a drastic change due to the shrinkage of your blood vessels. Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, the caffeine in your coffee grounds is sure to awaken your tired under-eye.

Hyperpigmentation? Guac to go.

Fast Hack: Avocado

When melanin becomes overproduced, it can lead to splotchy, dark spots on the skin. Avocado may be the answer you’ve been waiting for. Enriched with vitamin C, fatty acids, and enzymes, your pigmentation will be reduced before your eyes.
